Are Tirzepatide and Semaglutide in the same drug class? Tirzepatide and Semaglutide are both in the class of drugs known as incretin mimetics but have some differences. Tirzepatide acts on both GIP and GLP-1 receptors, while semaglutide acts only on GLP-1 receptors; however, both drugs are treatments for weight loss. Tirzepatide, is a dual-acting GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1).
Both decreas your appetite and makes you full quicker by slowing down how quickly food passes through your digestive track. It assists with weight control as it is administered once a week and you do not have to think about taking daily pills. You will experience correct portion control as you will maintain the appropriate hunger all while eating about 1/3 to 1/2 of your current portions per day. It is important to eat healthy protein based calories and to maintain a regular exercise routine to enhance results.
The average amount of weight lost reflects directly to the amount of weeks you are on the medications (results may vary per person). You will be weaned off once you reach your goal weight. Up to 2/3 of people taking these medications have experienced weight gain upon termination of taking the medicatiions. This means you MUST make lifestyle changes and habits to keep the weight off after you are weaned off the medications. This is not specific to these medications. You will gain the weight back after any diet and excercise program if you do not maintain healthy lifestyle habits.
Studies show: 14.9% mean weight loss vs 2.4% (~6 lb) weight loss with placebo at 68 weeks with Semaglutide 25% mean weight loss with Tirzepatide
